Chatham is a village located in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. It is part of the Springfield, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Chatham was 11,500. The village was founded in 1836 and was named after Chatham, Massachusetts. Chatham is known for its highly rated schools, shopping, parks, and family-friendly atmosphere. There are several local events that take place throughout the year, including a farmer's market, Fourth of July parade, and a community Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Chatham is home to several large employers, including Illinois Tool Works, Scheels Sporting Goods, and Horace Mann Educators Corporation. The village is situated about 10 miles south of Springfield and offers easy access to major highways.
